I was thrilled to learn that the Oticon Opn has been named a 2017 finalist in the globally acclaimed Edison Awards, in the category of Health and Wellness.
The feedback Audiology Associates have received from our clients who have purchased and are using this aid has been extraordinary. Not only do they feel that it's the most "natural sounding hearing device" they have experienced, they also love the simplicity and diversity of the Oticon On App.
In my opinion the Opn has been designed with today in mind; Connectivity through the new Oticon Opn hearing aid, alongside it's "If This Then That" (IFTTT) network allows the user to benefit from online solutions and interacts directly with the internet, above and beyond alternatives perviously unavailable. It provides vast opportunities and solutions perviously unassociated with hearing aids.
Hearing aids to date have not previously been associated with or referred to as a "Smart Device" but this little beauty certainly can take that title. The Opn allows you to connect to your smart phone, and listen to the TV and music directly through your hearing device. The Opn lets you craft your own connections, it can inform you when your washing is finished , when someone is at the door and a plethora of other wonderful additions to aid every day life. The connectivity gives the user endless possibilities, but the Opn's primary function is as a listening device. It is designed to allow the user to better manage real time situations where by a number of different people, all chatting simultaneously is no longer an issue for the user. Directionality, sound separation, improvement in speech understanding, the Opn has the ability to provide it's user with all the sound around them and still allows differentiation of what the user wants to hear, so that active participation can be enjoyed.
To read more about this ground breaking hearing aid click here or call us at Audiology Associates for more information. We can provide you with free hearing tests throughout all our South Wales clinics and suggest suitable hearing aid technology to support your hearing loss. The Opn may or may not be for you, regardless you'll be in the right hands to support all your hearing needs and to assist you the journey to hearing health.
The team at Audiology Associates are big technology fans, one particular member of the team is all over any tech products, especially when they are related to hearing or the ears, that said we have a new concern....
We’re concerned about Apple’s latest Airpod wireless earbuds.
When Apple announced they were releasing wireless bluetooth ear buds for their next generation Apple 7 phones, it caused a real stir within the office, we got excited, however, as audiologists we were worried about some intrinsic design flaws which some reviews seem to confirm.
The fit of the AirPods in the ear is loose! Worrying.... There are many reviews out there where people state that they can't get them to sit in the ear for any length of time and more worryingly that outside sound is let in. This results in the volume being turned up by the user, to block out the outside noise so that you can hear through the AirPod.
The louder than necessary volume could expose the ear to harmful noise levels, which have been shown to be dangerous and can with over exposure, lead to tinnitus and hearing loss.
The AirPods don’t fit well for some people which will reduce the sound quality. Most consumers and reviewers are stating that the only drawback is that you don't get isolated from your immediate environment without thinking of the bigger hearing health picture.
Every ear is unique and Apple have made improvements, the AirPod is slightly more contoured , which Apple claims, makes them more comfortable. Apple have also stated that they have tested thousands of ear shapes and they feel the design is robust enough to please most people.
What can we as an organisation and indeed you as the consumer do about this? Audiologists and mould labs are thankfully one step ahead, we are already creating custom ear impressions, making moulds and sleeves which you can slip over the AirPod to customise the fit. Result!
Although many of us desire the flexibility that wireless headphones provide us, if you are unsure of the fit and even the product itself get in touch with us today and we will happily advise you.
